<they were all self-defense in nature>

A patriot is infinitely capable of rationalizing any violence his nation does.

No, I don't think it would be useful to discuss specific wars, because I have found patriots (of all nations) to be immune to facts. Patriotism is a religion, and your Belief in your nation, is a matter of Faith. Facts just bounce off Faith without effect.

Lots of American patriots are convinced the Korean War was in self-defense of America (or the Free World, or Democracy, or something). I'll bet it's easy for you to see that all of America's wars have not been in self-defense. Patriots have a double standard: they only see evil done by other nations.

So, when it's China's turn to invade Afghanistan, in 30 or 40 years, I'm sure you and all other patriotic Chinese, will be firmly convinced all the killing is in self-defense.
