Thean,

In response to your first point:
I hope you mentioned this to someone at Waterhouse Electronic Brokerage Services so they can do something about it. It would probably be a simple fix for them to apply.

In response to your second point:
Back in early October, in my IRA I was holding essentially no cash and then sold all my stocks to raise cash. Later on the same day, I entirely reinvested in other stocks. So, I didn't experience your problem. (But what might have happened is that someone at my local branch (Forest Hills, NY) might have been alerted when I tried to trade with no "real" cash in the account (since the sells hadn't cleared yet) but allowed the trades through quickly when he saw that the zero cash position was simply because of the settlement delay.)

John

I haven't had the same experence.
For
1) I too have had a one to three minute delay in executions. This is not uncommon Fidelity and Schwab are the same.

2) I have sold shares and immedently after their execution bought new shares. Your account info is not updated til the next day, but the funds are very much available. In fact, I've done this about 50-60 times. I don't like to hold cash.

P.S. I have only used the Webbroker so I can't speak for other services.

Good Luck,

Waterhouse is limited by the software firms it uses such as Marketware International. If enough people have made the suggesion to Waterhouse, Im sure they will contact their software providers so that the software can indeed be upgraded. Currently there is no web trading that is completely flawless. Only after the industry accelerates, and more usage of the systems is done, will there be vast improvements. If you do have a problem, the Waterhouse representative is right, use your branch office, place the trade and ask for the $12 rate as well as tell them the problem you experienced with the Webbroker. Many of the other internet trading firms will not honor the lower rate when using a broker regardless of the problem.

The Waterhouse rep should have told you that the timetables for the upgrades are subject to change possibly or should not have mentioned a date at all. I e-mailed Waterhouse recently regarding improving the speed for the servers, or increasing capacity, and they told me that new software was being implemented for that. But timetables for software upgrades always change. I just happened to notice that Waterhouse has several new servers online with the security all ready, but they arent in use yet. I hope by Monday they will be put online. Right now the servers do tend to lag a bit and are slower then they should be but that problem will be corrected as UU.NET (Waterhouse's ISP) is doing alot of upgrades, and Waterhouse is working on the servers which I hope will be up ASAP.

Thean: Better Connection to Webbroker?

I know this is a off your subject message, but wanted to get it posted somehow to this thread.

I'm a new Waterhouse customer and began to experience problems during trading hours connecting to webbroker like some of you reported. I spoke with an ES rep who told me there were ten webbroker servers and that I could experiement with them to see which worked best for me with my ISP or at different times when I'm having trouble getting through.

Basically, you create ten variants of:

webbrokerxx.waterhouse.com

where XX = 1, 2, ..., 10

and bookmark them. this is a little hokey, but, hey, if it works, better to use it until something better comes along.

Is anyone still using www1.waterhouse.com and do they really think that helps? Any other suggestions, other than the obvious? Has anyone ever heard of a patch to speed up browsing called "mtufixes"? If so, where can I find?

Appreciate your comments ...

Theodore

To All

1) How long to execute a market order (stock) on line?
2) How long to confirm a executed order on line?
3) Does Webbroker provide the execution time?

Thanks.
