Ted, that's so stupid. The geography of California is much, much different than that of Japan. High-speed rail is not going to be profitable unless the population density of California gets closer to that of Japan.

Really? I don't agree. 99% of HSR lines throughout the world are profitable. In fact, many are competitive with the airlines.

Secondly, the second best line in Amtrak's system is the LA/SD route.....it pays 85-90% of its operating costs. And the frigging line is no where close to being HSR.

Thirdly, the Boston/DC sub HSR line is Amtrak's only profitable line and generates half of Amtrak's revenue. And its SUB HSR.

And now you, the expert on all things, are telling me that a HSR line in populous CA will not be profitable. Sorry, dude, I don't believe you.
