I think $14/barrel is about right. It was a double whammy, because the oil companies downsized and greatly reduced their spending, while at the same time state oil-tax revenue was lowered. Ironically, the economy finally got a boost in '89 when Captain Hazelwood crashed his oil tanker on Bligh Reef, and Exxon spent billions to clean up the mess. I'll never forget it -- the spill happened the day I moved into my new house.

These days the economy here is more diversified, although we'll still get clipped somewhat if oil prices tank again.

P.S. Really weird weather up here now, courtesy of "El Nino". Much of the snow has melted, and one of the local golf courses just reopened! I'm not kidding!
