>>Verizon (NYSE: VZ) chief financial officer Fran Shammo said Tuesday that the company will likely added twice as many customers in the first quarter than it did in the year-ago period, driven by demand for Apple Inc.'s (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone 4.

During the first quarter of 2010, the wireless operator added 1.5 million total net customers, while adding 423,000 retail customers that signed a contract, which is required to purchase an iPhone.<<

When I first saw that story, I thought the figures in the second paragraph referred to this year. But it says they added 1.5 million customers last year, in Q1 of 2010, and that they believe they will add twice as many in this quarter.

So 3 million new customers. Twice as many as last year, with the increase being due to iPhone demand.

Works for me.
