The $101,091 figure isn't for salary or wages, or even total compensation including pay and all benefits, its the cost to the taxpayers of each teacher. That would include any marginal costs to have that teacher not just what the teacher makes now, and contributions to retirement. Salary/wages, payroll taxes, incremental paperwork costs, insurance, pension contributions, the cost of meeting any union requirements such as paid job search time and education payments to any teacher notified as being at risk of layoffs, etc.
