Taking it down a notch or two or three, my younger son's rec team comprised of 9th and 10th graders, which I coach, has made the semifinals. If we win our first game (only 20 minutes long), we advance to the finals, to be broadcast live on local TV and streaming on the web. My team is Miami and the game would start at 7:15pm.

I'm a bit worried that the Big East tournament might steal some of our fans, especially in areas outside of town and in demographics that don't have kids at this particular high school, and then there are the other 600+ channels to choose from, but otherwise I think we should do quite well.

However, I will say our #1 scorer and biggest kid is out with an eye injury, our #2 scorer is home from school with a fever, another kid is out with a wrist injury from skiing, and my own son is recovering from a concussion from skiing (seriously in all cases). Nevertheless, I expect us give it 100%, win one for the Gipper, and so forth.

To make the semifinals we beat a team that played their best kid for all 20 minutes of the game with the Commissioner keeping score (everyone is supposed to play equally, and they had nine kids). In the prior game, that kid torched us and they won by 20+, forcing a rematch since we were both 2-1. We went to a box and one on the kid and won by three to advance. Was quite fun.

Walton is apparently reffing the Purdue/Michigan St game tonight. Doesn't look like anyone has to worry about him quitting early in this one; Purdue has yet to show up. Rather shocking for a team that looked on the verge of a #1 seed a week ago.
