Just some final icing for the day if not already previously noted here: << Micron gears up for Comdex with Pentium II desktops By Dan Briody InfoWorld Electric Posted at 4:59 PM PT, Nov 12, 1997 Micron is beefing up its desktop product offerings at Comdex this year by adding a high-powered Pentium II-based system as well as teaming up with Iomega to include the Zip drive as the standard Drive A: in its future Millenia desktops. The new ClientPro 766Xi, which will eventually replace the XLU line, features Pentium II processors with the 440LX chip set from Intel and 64MB of Synchronous DRAM standard, along with meeting the Wired for Management (WFM) baseline specifications as put forth by Intel. The WFM specs include Wake-on-LAN and Desktop Management Interface 2.0 for remote wake up and remote management capabilities. A 766Xi with a 266-MHz processor, 64MB of RAM, Accelerated Graphics Port graphics, a 17-inch monitor, and a 3.2GB hard drive is priced at $2,599. Micron will also be including the Zip drive from Iomega as the standard Drive A: on its future Millenia desktops. In addition, the systems will come with Norton Zip Rescue, a backup product designed to rescue key files in the event of a hard drive failure. The move to incorporate the Zip drive as the standard Drive A: on these systems signifies a major step for Iomega in its drive to make the Zip the replacement for the 1.44MB, 3.5-inch floppy drive. The floppy drive will occupy the Drive B: slot in the Millenias. We are throwing all our weight behind the Zip," said Jeff Moeser, vice president of desktops at Micron. "The LS-120 drive is slow and expensive and there's not a lot of support for it." there is the answer about analyst coverage "HD Brous and Co. analyst Cliff Josephy expects clik! to boost Iomega's revenues by as much as $1 billion by 2000." no wonder they are spliting their shares!
