That's very interesting... despite being commander in chief your presidents seem to have a lot less power than our prime ministers up in Canada.. even under a minority government as we have now.. I don't see how anyone expects a president to get much done domestically yet he takes all the heat.. Maybe you need a parliamentary system (when in majority... it is really like a temporary benevolent dictatorship :O) Our minority government situation could be described as a coalition of party leaders.. (old Roman triumvirate idea for big issues) Limiting factor being everyone hates the guy causing an unnecessary election .. :O)

Shrub had a much less number-friendly Congress, and got a whole lot done. There is no substance to Obama; just style. He thinks the bully pulpit is the lectern of a law school lectern; it's not; it's a bully pulpit. He's much weaker than Carter, and, if he wins in '12, it'll be only cuz the R's are so lame.

For the two years that Dems held sway in Congress from 2008 to 2010, they fought and bickered amongst themselves. But notice after they lost the House in Nov 2010, they all came together in the lameduck session, passed a significant amount of bills and went out like a lion. Who who basked in glory? The O-man. Nothing wrong when they thought they were a team. But were they? Did they have to take that "shellacking".
