I have heard that war is good for the economy. Is that because of the damage that has to be rebuilt and lost stuff that has to be replaced or because now there is more competition for labor?

I didn't know it was a famous parable, but I did see the profundity in that statement immediately, which is why I made that comment about good news for the company that makes the windows... it's a truly great statement about disasters in general, although it may not always hold true, there are also limitations as pointed out in the link... as well, there are human tragedies also part of each disaster, and I can't imagine that massacres and mass murders could fit into that paradigm either...
