I spent several years living in Japan some time ago, I lived on the southern island of Kyushu near Fukuoka, about 60 miles north of Nagasaki, but I traveled all over the country, Kyushu is an island far from where the quakes and tsunami hit... I spent much of this morning looking at where I lived with Google Earth... but still, I felt a deep sadness and a melancholy thinking about the people further north and their personal suffering... it's definitely very disturbing to see those news release pictures... just as a comparison, we went through Hurricane Andrew on August 24th 1992 here in south Florida when 27 different municipalities were literally wiped off the map... pictures of the hurricane disaster at that time couldn't even begin to tell you the real life fullness of such an event, miles and miles of nothing but debris everywhere you looked with all the trees blown down, homes gone, whole neighborhoods completely missing and never found... not only could people not find their homes, they couldn't even find their street, and couldn't even find their town... the entire county looked as if it were hit with a nuclear blast... I'm sure the horrible disaster now on the main island of Honshu has much more destruction as a result of so many major earthquakes and with a 25 foot tsunami... it's very disheartening and disturbing, very upsetting...
