Broad range of Japan industries hurt by quake
excerpt:
"Consumer electronics giant Sony Corp. (6758.To) said it stopped operations at six electronics components manufacturing plants -- including those manufacturing batteries, chips and smart cards -- in Fukushima and Miyazaki.

At one plant in Miyagi Prefecture, which makes magnetic tapes and Blu-ray discs, the entire first floor was flooded and the employees have evacuated to the second floor, the company said.

Panasonic Corp. (6752.TO) said Saturday that the company has halted operations at several plants, including those manufacturing digital cameras, audio products and electronic components, in earthquake-struck northern Japan.

The quake has also disabled some of the supply and distribution network in the areas, a spokesman said. He added that the company has yet to get a full picture of the quake's impact on its operations in the region.

Toshiba Corp.'s (6502.TO) system large scale integration chip plant in Iwate Prefecture has also suspended operations, and the company is still trying to get more information on the latest situation, said a spokesman."
