Everything you mentioned is dependent on network speed and how much memory you have, and the processor doesn't matter much.
Sounds to me like you are mainly surfing the net, which lots of people are doing tonight on a Web TV.

BTW... if your Pentium was that powerful, you wouldn't have to run your simulations in xwindows remotely now would you?

Elmer: Fiondella's idea of power is running Netscape 1.0 and a screen saver... I need the 300 Dell to run streaming quotes, multiple spreadsheets, etc, etc, etc all at the same time. Users will want more and more power...It's the American way brah!

The Cyrix Media GX is not a toy system

Its more powerful than most of the systems sitting on people's desks.
It runs Win95 perfectly well.

I strongly suggest you and other skeptics of the under $1000 PC read today's WSJ. An article there indicates 40% of Christmas sales are estimated to be of under $1000 PCs. It also states that only 50% of the buyers of these systems are not first time users. It als osays that Intel is expected to cut prices 25% in January.

You are going to be very disappointed when you see you could have gotten your 233MHZ for a lot less.

By the way don't lecture to me about PC's. I have been putting them together since I obtained the eight one available back when IBM started up the induustry.

I assume you were in diapers then.

Elmer - Re: "As I post this, I am also monitoring other SI groups. I am listening to a radio program with real audio, "

Lighten up on Fiondella. He stated he was a secretary and his needs are simple - as simple as himself.

Typing memos and Internet access are easily done on a MediaGX.

Paul

Elmer:
<I am posting this..>
<I am also monitoring other SI groups..>
<My spreadsheet is open...>
<my mail checker is continuiously checking for new mail.>
<I have a window open..>
<also had an xwindows connection open>
<I am probably not the average user, but I am not ahead by much.>

You are simply an ignorant amateur in computers. When you think you are "doing" something with all these open windows, the computer is doing exactly NOTHING. All the "open windows" consume about ZERO CPU power. Any slow computer can keep windows open and check e-mail every 5 minutes equally well as your "speed monster" p200. Go open your mind for basic computer literacy first before teaching here.
