Pat,

"If I'm to go down in infamy for having said something, please let it not be for drawing attention to Nov. 17. I'm as skeptical as the next when it comes to believing announcements will come out when someone says they will."

I don't think anyone will hold this against you. You have been very informative to both the Wstl and Amtx threads. We all appreciate everything you have shared with us. Have fun @ COMDEX and keep us informed.

M

P.S. What happened to everyone else, i.e. Bill C.? It seems to me like this thread is showing the calm before the storm (IMHO).

[Dec 3 vs. Nov 17]

Although Nov. 17 might be the date, I think Dec 3 (the ADSL forum) might also be a logical date for a deployment to be announced.
Judging from the topics and focus of the ADSL Forum on Dec 3 with WSTL, GTE, and BT among others, my guess would be that WSTL and GTE will announce something before the conference or possibly at the conference. Just a hunch, but a couple of points seem worth noting.

(1)Seems like they wouldn't attend such a conference unless they had something new to talk about. Why not wait a few weeks, and then make a big show or your plans after they are ready. Otherwise, just lots of uncomfortable questions for them to answer.

(2)The other RBOCs are definitely moving forward. GTE must be feeling a little heat be now.

(3)Biggest obstacles IMHO would be if the real problem for GTE is regulatory in nature, and they just have to wait until the legal issues are resolved, and/or still kinks to be worked out with the new chips.

Regards, Bret

Congrats to Pat Mudge! Pat first identified Nov 17th as a potential announcement day back in the dark days of October. That was a good bit of research and analysis, Pat.
