Right now, the government is dragging its feet issuing permits to drill new wells in the western GOM. There aren't any other offshore areas open to leasing now. There's known to be a lot of oil offshore Santa Barbara CA. There's known to be a lot of natural gas in the Destin Dome area in Florida waters. Its widely believed there's a lot of oil in ANWR and in the Arctic ocean. There's probably oil and gas offshore the east coast in various areas. Canada allows offshore drilling and production in the Arctic ocean and offshore Nova Scotia right across the national border.
