Oil patch hype in Fortune (11/24/97 p. 336 "How Did Oil Services Get So Hot?") singles out Schlumberger as the hot pick of the sector. Anaylyst John Lovoi is quoted: "You have to start with Schlumberger. They're the Intel of the energy business--they play some role in half of every barrel of oil now produced. Overall, the energy industry wouldn't be nearly as efficient without Schlumberger. They're very strong in offshore drilling as well as reservoir information technology, which helps determine whether deposits are commercially viable."
