Carl,

Since you are predicting such doom and gloom for Christmas, here is the first Christmas Joke of the Season, courtesy of the joke-of-the day site's e-mail today.

Christmas Angel Tradition

Santa was very cross. It was Christmas Eve and NOTHING was
going right. Mrs Claus had burned all the cookies. The elves
were complaining about not getting paid for the overtime they
had while making the toys. The reindeer had been drinking all
afternoon and were dead drunk. To make matters worse, they had taken the sleigh out for a spin earlier in the day and had
crashed it into a tree.

Santa was furious. "I can't believe it! I've got to deliver
millions of presents all over the world in just a few hours -
all of my reindeer are drunk, the elves are on strike and I don't
even have a Christmas tree!

I sent that stupid Little Angel out HOURS ago to find a tree
and he isn't even back yet! What am I going to do?"

Just then, the Little Angel opened the front door and stepped
in from the snowy night, dragging a Christmas tree. He says
"Yo, fat man! Where do you want me to stick the tree this year?"

And thus the tradition of angels atop the Christmas
trees came to pass........

Hmmm, Bilow-
Do goblins hide under your bed at night? But some of what you ponder sounds eerily possible- especially that bit about "the rest of the population punishes them for speculating in stocks and destroying the economy" ["They been mergin' companies, purgin' workers, and submergin' the economy"- Run, Jesse, Run].

Question for you. I've long been a bit uneasy about the influence of deriviatives on this market. [Obviously, Congress should pass a law...] My impression is the $ value of derivative trading far exceeds equity trading in this country. Do you know where I can go to get some education on the subject of the effects of the derivatives market on equities markets?

TIA,

Larry

When lots of people think that what you say is in progress, it will be time to go long on margin.

My take is that the first half of what you say is entirely likely; and we will have to hope that we avoid the second half.

But even if it all happens it's not nearly as bad as other things, like a nuclear war or an epidemic of AIDS-like illnesses spread by coughs and sneezes. So let's look at the cheerful side! Maybe everything you say WILL happen.

Thanks for a wonderful fincancial war-of-the-worlds secnario.

Hi Bilow,

I respectfully disagree. I had been one of the biggest bears around. I also expected to see 5700 again. But, the market appears to be working off its excesses very nicely. I think the volitility is great. I like it.

I submit, as I did on Tuesday a few weeks ago when the DOW opened 200 points lower at 6930 following Monday's 550 point drop, that the lows may be in place already. I posted on this thread that I will buy big on Tuesday's lower opening. I did. It appears that the 'test' just happened this week. I submit that we may very well see new highs by mid February. Probably sooner. BWDIK

Have a great weekend.
