As an aside, my friend Takeshi Yamada (Ph.D from Berkeley) believes that only about 10% of Japanese bank loans are out to SE Asia, and the exposure to Korea may be very small, since S. Korea has a lot of protectionist legislation in place to prevent foreigners from investing there. It seems that most of Japan's loan/bank troubles are domestic in nature.
