NTT gets go-ahead from Vietnam for new phone lines Reuters Story - November 14, 1997 00:22 %JP %TEL %VN %EMRG %LDC 9432.T V%REUTER P%RTR TOKYO, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp (NTT) said on Friday that it has obtained the Vietnamese government's permission to install about 240,000 new telephone lines in the northern part of Hanoi. The project will be conducted jointly between NTT's Vietnamese unit and the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Corporation (VNPT), the Japanese telecoms giant said in a statement. The NTT unit, NTT Vietnam Corp, will invest about $200 million over a five-year period to upgrade the telecoms infrastructure in northern Hanoi, the statement said. NTT will also provide technical and management assistance to state-run VNPT, the statement said.
