in neither case does it sound like the auditor was doing his job. reminds me of when i was a junior lending officer and a questionable customer told me he was bringing a check from rca victor and wanted to draw uncollected against it. I told that would be ok but i would need to see the check before he deposited. i waited a 1/2 hour after he told me he would come by and then went to lunch. when i came back there was a note from him telling me that he stopped by to show me the check but when i wasnt there he went ahead and deposited it and left me the deposit slip. skeptic that i am i went down to the branch and had them pull the deposit. surprise surprise he had deposited a check from one of his accounts at a different bank. any auditor who takes his client word for anyting instead of doing outside verification is just not doing his job.
