Hydrogen isn't a hydrocarbon and could be used to power an engine suited for it, but I'm sure hydrocarbons would be used in its manufacture so the net effect would be muted or eliminated.

I always thought we'd get enough nukes running to use electrolysis to separate hydrogen from water.

Then burning hydrogen creates water.

Boom! Winning...
