Who said you're not going to save money on fuel? You may or may not save as much money as a Prius.....that has yet to be determined........but you will save money. This is just not an accurate statement at all. The reason the government has to pay for a huge portion of the vehicle cost is that people wouldn't buy them without it. Because they don't make financial sense. (As it turns out, it appears the won't buy it WITH the subsidy, either. God, I'm tired of saying I told you so). You won't save money. You have to pay for the privilege to drive ANY of these cars.
