There was neither a vital national interest nor any world consensus of a humanitarian disaster there...we've gone through this in spades.

What happens if there exists a vital national interest yet the rest of the world doesn't happen to agree with us? We give up the right to protect ourselves?

You know damn well that attacking a country like NK would create a humanitarian disaster of far greater proportions than the one taking place there now. In most of these cases we do what can be done.
