I got the square foot data from National Association of Home Builders and it looks like the data I was trying to show is flawed. link to nahb data link to more nahb data Their data only shows new homes. I was surprised to find that data for free on the web. I doubt I can find data including existing home sales as well. I'll update the chart to note it's only new home sales. If I find existing+new home data, I'll update the charts to include both.
