Matthew,

Centura Web Developer had it's own Application Server, if you want to call it that. It worked, but didn't have the scaling and fault tolerance features that Foresite did, therefore they looked to the obvious idea of merging it with Foresite.

In my opinion, CWD was a bit of a "cool Kludge"; basically a neat little R&D experiment somebody pasted together that kind of did some neat things. A product it was not. Could it have become a product with a lot of work? Possible...

I would have rather seen them complete Tomahawk and the enhancements like that which would have turned a CTD applcation into an ODBC source. Now that sounded neat to me.

In my opinion, CNTR will not attempt to create an application server product like Foresite... Waste of time... Simply make the tool they have create the components to fit into other vendors CORBA or DCOM products...

On a more interesting note, they can now probably focus on SqlBase options and maybe if we are lucky finish Tomahawk (cross your fingers). Wow, back to where we were before that distraction we call Foresite appeared on the horizon... Lost a year. In this market, that's like 5 years... Good thing is, its not like lots o other companies don't take wrong turns once in a while. They just have the ability to hide them better.

I can say that the Client Server development community will be worse off if CNTR goes under!

GT

Don't know if anyone replied to this post, but this link ( yup,
there's that tools_sod again!) does refer to Centura's replacement
for Foresite.
