GTE may be rolling out ADSL really soon. Hopefully it will
choose WSTL/AMTX.

Cable modems are making inroads into residential markets. IOM Telecos
are going to lose market shares if they do not make ADSL available
soon.

[Netherlands market]

<<< If any of you have specific questions I can maybe put them to KPN.>>>

Hans --

Find out if KPN will install ETSI-compliant technology or if they will go with Orckit's non-standard solution.

Orckit is the only major ADSL vendor left who hasn't licensed DMT from Amati and they maintain they won't.

Incidentally, the Netherlands has one of the highest computer-literate populations in the world and their market should not be discounted simply because the country is small.

Thanks in advance.

Pat

KPN Questions

Thanks for posting the info.

The israeli company must be Orckit, trading in the usa as orctf on the nasdaq. Had their ipo last year; stronger in europe than in the usa where they are now partnered with fujitsu. Engineer's engineers, strength in silcon design for xdsl. Darkhorse xdsl play for worldwide rollout of xdsl. Old article, one of the best on who they are:
"Who does Brooktree/Pairgain call for HDSL/DSP help? Orckit Communications
Old article from EE Times
November 13, 1995"
exchange2000.com

Specific questions:

Is there any Lucent involvement?
Probably unlikely... but, lucent was orckit's partner in hdsl win in the Netherlands this last spring.

Is there an orckit partner?

Is Orckit providing both the modems and the dslams?
Probably... but could be a combination:
Dslam used in AMUSE Project with orckit equipment was jointly developed with Italtel.

Are any other equipment vendors also providing modems/dslams? or is orckit the only player at this trial stage?

What is "Oke"?
Only orckit adsl names i am familiar with are "fast internet" (dslam) or "orvision" (modems and etc)

Does the trial have an emphasis? Video-on-demand, internet access etc?

At any point will they be using the new adsl II fujitsu chip?

Is there a vdsl component to the trial?

Any and all info greatly appreciated
when you have the time, post either here or on the orctf thread @

Thanks again
