>>I am very confused at the moment...so preserving capital is utmost to me...i can and will live to trade another day...Esp. when I'm more confortable with the direction of this market....I think it makes good sense to take another step back...and watch and wait...<<

Listen, my friend -- when one feels the way that you described above-- the smart thing to do is to stand aside. Making money, through trading markets is a lot of fun--but ones peace of mind is even more important. Please don't take anything as I said as encouragement to enter the markets---especially, if you are not comfortable doing so.

I know when I am over-extended in the market, whether I am making or losing money--it is when I can only think about the market. At that point, I lighten up.

My regards to you

Jerry - My portfolio about 2 months back was over $280K, built up from about $98 in stock + 51000 cash during the year. At one stage I had 116000 in capital gains alone this year. Now my portfolio is about 140 .
Yesterday was one of the worst days - had to buy back 4 TXN Nov 120 puts to cover the naked sale - lost about 11000. Talk about missed oppotunities - I had a clear, golden chance to buy it back when TXN ran all the way back to 122 after the crash and hesitated for a measly two point loss, ended up with a 27 point loss. Evrytime I missed a chance to sell something in this market, the whole thing crashes on me. CMB, WDC, CPQ, HWP, LSI, COMS Jan options.

I am also hoping that by Jan expiry INTC, AMAT, CMB, BAC, IBM, CPQ, COMS, HWP reach reasonable levels.

Jerry,

What a great heartfelt post. You don't know how much I needed to hear some of the things you said. In particular:

"In August my option portfolio was between 150 & 200,000...it's been cut in half....not a pretty picture...but i can recover, i hope..."

And:

"Poeple are getting whipsawed out of positions, i know it's happening, because its happened to me..."

And:

" well it happened and i was spellbound, flatfooted and shocked I didn't play it properly..."

You don't know how dear you are to be honest like this. Very psychologically and spiritually medicinal. Thanks very much sweetie.

Take care now....

Autumn
