Doing my taxes today. Bought $30k of GM bonds back when. Obama cut them to 6 cents on the dollar. Thing I got as a tax whatever showed I was getting $1,800 in dividends even though that is what the bonds are now worth.

Banks are kind of hard to run from. Wells Fargo would be in your list too because they bought Wachovia. I used to have a BoA account, but they made me mad and I closed the account. Currently I have 5 banks, but you never know what they are going to do. One of my little banks was bought by BBVA that is headquartered in Spain. As for vehicles though, it is highly unlikely I will ever purchase GM or Chrysler again.

Just a note, I like having multiple banks because I think it offers some protection against fraud to spread your cash out.

i'm convinced the only way to stop this kind of crony 'capitalism' is to boycott the companies like GE, GM, Chrysler, Chase, Citi, Goldman Sachs, BofA, and insurers that were bailed out via AIG (and AIG itself of course)

Unless I am not recalling well I believe that the country made money on the bank bailout. There are many reasons not to like a bank other than this.

The GM, Chrysler and bailout of some others I agree. The shareholders and investors got screwed as did the taxpayers and the unions which contributed strongly to the predicament of GM were give substantial ownership. I doubt we will see the return on the "bailout investment" of these companies. And I am sure they would not have gone away - at worse case bankruptcy and reorg like the airlines do. But this smacked to me a gift to the unions.
