Remember! Apple's retail web presence was already well established within the distribution channel. What The Apple Store really means is is that Apple is seriously going after business on all fronts. Look for added profit centers within the store to come.

Aside: Does anyone know if these new G3 systems are based on the CHRP? I've heard that they are.

Here's a good sign.

I just got a call from an Apple Sales rep whom I met at the Nov 10th announcement.

He was interested in mapping out the different departments where I work to determine the strength of Apple's presence and to address issues that might cause a department to switch platforms.

He also noted that he is willing to negotiate deals if pricing and software are factors. (Got me the name of the Microsoft rep as well to promote free copies MS Office 98 beta for Mac to address speed issues of Office 4.2).

He even went as far as to question Lucent/Bell Labs involvment with Apple products. (Apple's ex-OS Development Director is now a Director at Lucent/Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ).

Sounds like they are pushing to develop real strategies for strengthening Apple's positions there.
