Elmat- what do farm animals eat? What drives land use decisions for crop selection?

OT, elmat: dunno how long it's been since you ventured into a US grocery store or fast food joint, but there is high fructose corn syrup in just about everything it seems. US citizens eat a lot of corn product whether they realize it or not... ironically, you point out that Mexico is one of the few places where they actually eat recognizable corn products as a staple and yet here in San Diego, many go south to Baja to buy soda in Mexico made with real sugar from sugar cane (something unavailable in the US for decades)... I suppose that may be due to using all available corn for those Mexican staples, so they use sugar cane sugar to sweeten their soda, etc.
