Disagree on the man and his companies.

Frankly, he is looking to maximise the value of his holdings by selling to the public shareholder at the most optimal time for him. I cannot see any of his IPOs being a good investment, particularly as the toppy rates that are achieved for many of his rig assets at the moment are likely to be reasonably close to market highs, even if we don't see a downturn for some time yet - little space for returns as a result.

These things are only in value territory if you think the dividend yield is attractive and sustainable. Think again. These have time and time again been proven unsustainable in listed shipping companies. The industry is commoditised with low barriers to entry in many sectors (capital aside in the large drilling sector), which simply attracts more entrants who destroy the returns.

Mark my words, he is a canny operator, but you won't come out ahead of him through investments in any of his shipping businesses.

EKS, fwiw, I picked FRO off the new lows list today and started a very small tracking position.

I don't know the situation with oil tankers-- if there's now a glut of such ships or not.

Looks like FRO has made a profit though in each of the past ten years. Going with Mr. Fredriksen stocks has been satisfactory for me in past. Betting maybe it will be again with FRO, for a few shares.

Pacific Andes 1174.HK @0.69HKD - a fishing and fish processing company of Chinese Origin, listed in Singapore and HK. I bought the shares in HK. Penny stock. I bought a starter position yesterday.

I bought this based on a recommendation from an online acquaintance. He claims he watched the company for a long time and he things they are good operator and the enterprise is legit. Their balance sheet and income statement from my perspective does make sense - earnings are lumpy as you would expect but the stock is very cheap. Earnings are in the 0.15-0.2HKD range and they do pay a dividend once a year of 0.05HKD currently.

They have world wide operations in China, Peru (that is where the Andes in their name comes from) and recently Africa. Buy this at your own risk.

Marine Harvest ASA (MNHVF) - Peeled off 15% of these shares

This is one of Fredriksen's companies, a salmon fish farm. Company has been doing well w/ higher salmon prices and the recovery of fingerlings that died from infection 18 month's ago. Have been accumulating the stock in early 2012 between $0.65/share-$0.85/share. Took a bit off the table but will let the other 85% ride as there are still good prospects for increased sales and profitability w/ the current crop of fish. Hard to know where fair value is with many cyclical factors that affect profitability. Asia likes the fish especially China so their market is expanding.

They also reinstated their dividend so company finances are getting better.
