That issue was put on the ballot here and the people voted to get rid of it. But then in politics, the roles may be reversed in 10 years when the Republicans are in the majority. Hence both the parties here are lukewarm, it seems.

Anybody in office is usually against cleaning up gerrymandering. In California the Reps in office are in the Dems throw away districts, made to hold as many Rep voters as possible and not pollute the Dem districts. So those Reps may never be in the majority, but they have incredible job security.

You redraw those districts and those Reps would have to raise money and actually convince people to vote for them. They couldn't be wild eyed Rep radicals, they would have to make some sense. Who needs it?
