Jacob - this has been a thought provoking discussion. The issue of world food supply - from production through distribution - requires thought.

You specifically mention Egypt. It would seem to me that there would be huge opportunities for food production via irrigation as there sure looked to me to be a huge amount of water available in the Nile.

As a total off the wall idea - at one time in my youth I saw discussion about creating a canal of some type in Libya into some great depression to in effect create a new Great Salt Lake. The climate impacts of something like that would be interesting to analyze. The flow of water from the Mediterranean would also be a source of hydro power. Besides, if we are going to melt the worlds ice - it could serve as an overflow pond - sorry - that's a joke.
