nice to read, but as my professors used to say, it is obvious to the casual observer that this is R&D announcementware. i read your links. thanks. it is good to see the heterojunction technology moving along, but this stuff is Expensive. when they talk about concentrators, you know it is land based only and needs Lots of precision location work plus expensive extra hardware. this is r&d stuff designed, i suppose, to give solar advocates premature boners.

we are many generations away from affordable(low cost to a real customer -- not the government who will simply take it from your pocket), easily manufacturable 30% efficiency solar cells. when we can have these things on cars/light vehicle hoods/tops/trunks/etc. with 30% efficiency, we will be in good shape for most non-fossil fuel transportation. jmho

Re. the 39% efficient solar cells. You might temper your enthusiasm a bit. The panels apparently are used to power satellites and are money is no object items. The are very efficient to be sure, but light years (figuratively speaking) from commercial use. The numbers just don't work.
