Stewart: Thanks. I didn't take time to contact them directly, partly because I didn't think I had a chance of a reasonable reply.

I kinda wonder if their statement tells it all: "The majority of the developers surveyed were selected at random from among US companies. The sample was supplemented w/ a database of attendees at various Java conferences held over the past 12 months."

A random sampling that was "supplemented" sounds strange. I often think what is NOT said is as telling as what IS.

Without knowing the methodology I question any research. The smart ones question it even when they know the methodology!
