To: BozzMon Re: Syquest (couldn't resist)

1. Just curious, you're holding on to your Syquest stock. How much did you pay for it?

2. Have you heard about the defective Syjunk discs being currently shipped?

3. What are you smokin? I'd like to buy some.

I own 21 stocks. All but 3 are up today. Only IOM, TXN and HOU are down. If IOM can't go up after all the hoopla, on a day when most tech stocks are booming, do we simply ignore this fact and yell, "Rah rah IOM"?

Any objective thoughts out there?

I suggest that you check this out if you really are sincere about your post of Syquest's quality and Iomega's faults.

<<<<<<<<Syquest rumored to have defect in all SYJET and SPARQ disks made to date.
Good source.

Bill Bronsteen*****>>>>>>>>>
BTW do you think that SYQT will recall all of their faulty disks? I doubt that they will. So you better be careful about your cherished data and have yours backed up on another system.

***Now, it appears that a Zip killer has been introduced by SyQuest. I must say...IT'S
ABOUT TIME! The concept of the Zip drive is perfect, but the drive quality and
pricing are not. With the new Sparq drive, I can now have 10 times the space of a
Zip disk on just one Sparq disk, at much faster speeds, and for just a few bucks
more. Basically you get the size and performance of an Iomega Jaz drive for roughly
the price of the newest Zip. The Sparq kills both the Zip and Jaz in one fatal blow.***

I always find it curiously pathetic when someone like yourself basis decisions off a sample of one--jeez, take a statistics class. I'm confident, as I'm sure others are that actually have some data on failures, that the zip is every bit as reliable as any of Syjunks products. Of course, beyond reliability there are numerous other issues to consider, but I'll leave it here. . . I'm sorry you lost your files, but get a grip. . .

Hey Bozzo, glad you have a Syjunk drive . . .

I'd like you to send me some files, ok?

Whoops. Sorry, you can't. No one I know owns a Syjunk and I won't be able to read your data.

BozzMon,

Sorry to hear about your problems with Zip. Sometimes products don't provide 100% customer satisfaction, but to put things in perspective there are probably over 500,000 (that's giving you bears the benefit of the doubt) zip drives that have had problems. That would leave Iomega a 95% customer satisfaction rating (that's 9.5 million working just fine) - which is probably too low for Iomega standards, but good enough to qualify it as a reliable product - Syquest could only hope for this rating, ask them yourself.

I know what your agenda is, but humor me. To say SyQuest has a zip killer is ludicrous without an explanation. Why is their new product a zip killer; price/capacity/performance? Well let me take this time to introduce you to a new technology paradigm - it's called marketing, you may have heard of it. It's a simple concept of providing the customer what they want and then consistently beating customer expectations. How can Syquest beat Iomega - not Sparq versus Zip/Jaz.

<<I see the new Sparq as one of the greatest additions to the removable media category to come along in years.>>

Great. Third party observers have annointed Zip as one of the greatest additions to the computer industry. You can keep your little slice of the pie.

If you ever want to base your stock decision on sound fundamentals rather than wishes you may want to look up this symbol: IOM, but really good luck with your "winner" ;)

Sparq? Give me a break - weak, weak, weak argument at best.

Sparq is a threat?? nawww, with a 10 million head start I dont think so. I'm sure it is the best removable storage product NO ONE WILL EVER OWN!!! Why? It is as simple as this, I wont buy a product unless I know it is proven and that the company is going to be there 5 years down the road to service it. Do you really think Syquest is going to be in business 5 yrs from now?? Hell, there are so many new products in removable storage and only one standard, the Zip. Syquest can punch it out with every other new kid on the block to be #2 while IOM grows into the 500lb Gorilla of removable storage. Why is IOM the only removable storage company that makes money? Because they have sales now, and syquest and the rest are fighting for a smaller and smaller piece of the pie. Why buy the "Next Iomega" whey you can buy the real thing!!! In the world of David vs. Goliath, Goliath usually wins and IOM has a 10 million drive head start. Think about it.
