One more thing:
In late Sept., Phillip corrected called the lower quarter before the analysts did, and said that he had heard that there was some severe price cutting going on. This lends some credibility to his current statement that more price cutting will be coming down the pipe. I hope not, but it is always possible.

Sam: Anyone that has followed the recent asian news knows that the japanese economy is in total disarray at this time. The banks are going to lose tons of money trying to plug the dike, and their stock market is a mess to say the least..

As for Fujitsu I do not really see them as a threat to any of the american DD mfrs. Desperation yes, they are trying to get into the market.

We are seeing a shift in emphasis by WDC to the next generation drives and a strong emphasis on the enterprise market, they have purposely backed off on production.

I think that you are witnessing a paradigm shift in american management from short term goals to long term ones. I believe that WDC is on the right track, excellent products, workforce and management.

We get into trouble on the various threads when investors(?) of different time horizons attempt to discuss the present and future prospects of the companies. I hope that everyone agrees that one investors long term investment horizon does not necessarily involve the same technical or fundamental analysis as one that is a day trader..

to explain I term an investor one who has a 3-5 year time line or one that is willing to let the stock go through a complete business cycle.

A speculator is one that is trying to take advantage of the day to day price swings of the stock using either fundamental or technical analysis.

I would classify myself as a hybrid, normally invest for the long term but rarely hold a position for more than 6 months. I frequently buy during short term price swings as I did today with Green Tree finance and COMS.

It would be helpful to everyone on the thread if the poster identified himself as to investment style when the gunfire(flames, arguements etc) starts.

Good investing to you all

When I see these terrific flames on the various threads I always wonder if it is because of the different investment perspectives of the investors involved.
