"Using Technical Analysis" by Clifford Pistolese is good reading, but it focuses very heavily on the qualitative interpretations of chart formations, and it really isn't all that technical.

"The Encyclopedia of Technical Market Indicators" by Colby and Meyers is a real hard-core TA book, but not geared toward pleasure reading.

It's hard to find a good book in between. The term "Technical Analysis" is thrown around so often, as if it were a procedure or methodology. It's a vague term which can mean whatever you want it to, as long as you're drawing lines on charts or plugging open-high-low-close values into some formula. You can easily find indicators which do not agree with each other. Knowing which indicators to apply to a situation is the key. Backtesting will help verify if the technique should be used.

Just to avoid being blasted by those who would put down my TA abilities, let me save you the time and do it for you. I'm a complete novice with very little experience. I know a few things, but I have a lot to learn about technical trading and choosing appropriate methods. Maybe in a few years I'll have a clue about TA.
