GZ in the 1800 US was on gold standard China on the silver . To trade China paid in silver .

The US found coins the best way to handle the excess and so minted . Those old coins are probably still in use some where today . By now are melted down ?

There were so many of them that my 1 coin , a silver dollar , from 1884 would be worth only the silver content and nothing for its age .
