Leyland made his first mistake of many that he will make this season.He played Avila at catcher,a left handed batter against a very good left handed pitcher.He struck out three times.He played V.Martinez at DH instead of catcher and should have played another right handed batter in the DH spot. Fifty years ago,I was invited to a Tigers tryout camp.(I am now 68) Bob Swift,a former catcher for the Tigers was at the camp as their scout. I played junior baseball against Fergie Jenkins,who could really bring it and later had 5 twenty win seasons for the lowly Chicago Cubs.Used to get the odd hit off of him.Luck?
