M, As the debts grow, the chance of repayment goes down so the interest rate required will go up. The issue simply that at some point the amount to service the debt becomes too onerous.. For an individual... the effects are rather singular.. (limited)... but for a country less so... (varies with size :O)... debt needs to be vapourized somehow... but for now looks like the can has been successfully kicked down the road again... TBS
