Probably the printer has a menu that will allow you to select the file to print (remember data are stored in CF in file format).

Most printers have a processor that can handle a postscript file. To handle a JPEG file is no more complicated. Add a small LCD panel and it is easy to select a file to print.

However, all that said, I believe that the primary use of such printers will be attached to a PC with the CF slot in the printer allowing for easy transfer of photo files from a CF card to the PC for retouch, etc. before printing. Adding a CF slot in a printer that only uses the slot to transfer data to a PC will add $2.00 (a CF connector) to the cost of the printer.
