I guess Islam is winning the war. Calling the Koran holy should also be declared un-American. It is just a book and burning it is freedom of expression like it or not. I don't think any media coverage would be laid out for some kook burning the bible. Koran burning is 'un-American' says White House Posted Tue Apr 5, 2011 9:00am AEST The White House has slammed Koran burning as "un-American" but said a US pastor's destruction of the Muslim holy book did not justify the killings of UN personnel in Afghanistan. "We absolutely condemn the burning of a holy text. We think it is un-American and inappropriate," said White House spokesman Jay Carney. But after violence erupted in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif on Friday and claimed the lives of at least 22 people, including seven foreign UN staff, Mr Carney said "absolutely nothing" justified such attacks. Pastor Terry Jones supervised the burning of a Koran in front of about 50 people at a church in Florida on March 20. Western political and military leaders, including president Barack Obama and the top US and NATO commander in Afghanistan, General David Petraeus, have already condemned the act as well as the violence that followed. But their statements appeared to do little to placate anger across much of Afghan society. On Sunday, General Petraeus urged Afghans to understand only a small number of people had been disrespectful to the Koran and Islam. "We condemn, in particular, the action of an individual in the United States who recently burned the Holy Koran ," General Petraeus said in a statement, which was also signed by NATO's senior civilian representative, ambassador Mark Sedwill.abc.net.au
