I agree with your comments for the most part. Obama has been sending a garbled message. It's a military action and it seems to me there's no need to telegraph what one will or will not do in advance. Some of Gate's comments were also unprofessional, I thought.

Nevertheless, the military intervention itself was a bold statement of the values we stand for and a reminder to the world that we are a military superpower. By doing this, we drew the proverbial line in the sand. It sends a message to the governments of Iran and Syria that we will take action, does it not? I don't know why this won't give those governments pause before they brutalize their own populations.

Maybe this is too positive of a spin. The message we would send by inaction, though, is horrific, imo. So even if the Libyan effort fails, I still think it was the correct decision at that particular time and with what were the apparent facts on the ground.
