I consider this optimistic, lol. I think the next twenty years will be bad for the country. My guess is we've passed the point of no return, debt-wise. Neither party has what it takes.

It'll never happen, but due to the reasons you've cited,
I've felt for awhile now that a single 6 year term for
the President would be the way to go ..
