I really hope for breakthroughs especially in solar... I don't want to give up the summer gypsy life with the trailer ... although thinking to go with an RV in a few years and save on a tow vehicle which are becoming more limited in choice any way :O)

Solar panel manufacturing requires a lot of energy, including oil, and the panels have a finite life, about twenty years I believe although maybe it's getting better. Last I read (five years ago) solar panels didn't recover their input energy cost over their useful life.

All the more reason to be a leader in solar research, before the window to manufacture them from oil passes.

I've seen some solar homes in the Seattle area. Over their useful life, they are net consumers of oil/ng/hydro because they only yield about 1/3 the output they'd get in parts of Arizona.
