Margin credits: this is the line on the Account Balance statement which isn't very clear. Account Equity on E*Trade is a function of Net Market Value plus cash plus margin credits (it also equals cash equity plus margin equity). I hold long and short margin positions and need some explanation how they contribute to margin credit balance.
