The comparisons are tenuous. Probably best to not compare as the differences exceed the similarities. But I suppose British migration to north America and developments were comparable with that to NZ. Negroes were imported as slaves so that's not such a good comparison. From the beginning of NZ in 1840, when Maori tribes agreed to sign up to a common country, Maoris were British Subjects, like the rest of us, with full rights and extra rights because of tribal ownership of land and fishing rights which didn't extend to the rest of us as they had customary rights to fishing. In the early 1970s, Britain cut off our rights which NZ had been cutting off anyway, with increasing autonomy. No more were we British Subjects with the right to simply take our passport and roam the British Empire. The dopey empire countries went for independence and forfeited the great benefits of being part of the British Empire. Now Rhodesians are called Zimbabweans and they are stuck with Robert Mugabe's rule unless they adopt refugee status and try their luck in the desperate battleground of South Africa or somewhere they can flee to. Fijians are stuck with banana republic status and military supervision. India has had half a century of poverty following a vicious civil conflict and partition. Arab countries which were starting to enjoy development are reduced to oil empires with the bosses grabbing the loot and murdering opponents while sharia bosses hack off body parts or stone to death those who disagree. Even the British went for independence from the British Empire as they did not want mass migration which they got anyway. Mqurice
