In one press conference earlier this year, Noam announced that MRV is working on three solutions for IP switching: one in software, two in hardware with one HW solution in ASIC. Also, MRV has filed a patent or several on IP switching. In one of my conversations with him, Noam explained to me that MRV's IP switching scheme is very simple, doesn't deviate from Ethernet standard, and he tried to convince IBM that's the way to go. So if this "simple" scheme works and MRV got the patent on it, then the other companies will have to either go with more complex scheme, or license the technology from MRV. I think in the short term, this IP switch is more important to MRV than GE as the router market is several billion of dollars. GE is just smoke right now. It takes more than just building GE switches. You have to beef up the performance of the servers, build more fiber lines, and as one tech article points out, the software also has to be re-written to take full advantage of GE.

Oops miss post #6001.
