How so? Extreme poverty feeding lots of societal ills Yup. The leaders in the South keep hoping that religion, the opiate for the masses, will some how cure those ills.....but it doesn't. By almost every metric, the South lags the rest of the nation and has throughout its history. I keep looking to states like NC and TN....hoping they can reverse history. NC, esp, seems to be having some success.
